October 5 and 6, 2014

Sunday--After a night in Loveland, CO, we got up and went down to Englewood, CO to visit with Jim and Donna. We visited for a couple of hours, picked some tomatoes and Donna gave us some dried apples. We enjoyed our visit..We left around noon, before the Broncos started playing at 2:30PM. That is a growing city. We traveled down to Dumas TX for the night..I took a bath as soon as we got in our room and laid in the bed and enjoyed the last night of our trip..

Monday--Up and ready to go about 7:30AM..I drove the first half of the day and let Bobby drive the last half which was the longest..We got home about 6:30..Overall we had a very nice trip..It was sa very fast two weeks...

October 4, 2014

Saturday--We left Cody, WY this morning. On our route we saw a couple of elk, after not seeing many in Yellowstone, it was a treat..WE also saw quite a bit of snow on our route, that we didn't remember from last year when we came across. This time we were going reverse..WE got some apples from a lady that was selling them on the side of the road at a little camp/retreat. There was an old Methodist church that had been moved to the property and it was neat. There was going to be a wedding there today..After we got to Buffalo, WY we started south on I-25 down to Cheyenne. After we got to Cheyenne, we got on I-80 and started to go across Nebraska, but after about 20 miles, we decided that we were going too far out of the way, so I turned around at the next exit, which are few and far between, went back to Cheyenne and got on I-25 and have ended up in Loveland, CO. Now I am tired and going to bed...

October 3, 2014

Friday--Temperature this morning at Gardiner, MT. was 25 degrees. By the time we had breakfast and got into Yellowstone the temp had risen to 28 degrees. At the entrance to the park we saw several elk. We drove the upper part of the park which we had not done before or if we had we didn't remember it. We saw a couple of herd of buffalo in the valley's and that was all the wild life we saw in that part. We went down to Old Faithful and went past several of the mud holes that were steaming and got out a couple of times..As we reached Old Faithful, we saw that it was not to erupt for a while so we had lunch in the cafeteria with all the rest of the "ching chang chong" people, who were very rude regardless of where we saw them..After lunch, we started out to see the geyser and I thought I had a few minutes so I went to the bathroom, when I got outside it was over. Bobby made some pictures and didn't really think it had erupted but guess it had, we sat there for a while and everybody left, so we left without me seeing it..After this we stopped a couple of times and made pictures of the waterfalls and I made the walk tot he Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and made some pictures..As we were leave the park we drove through a mountainous area and saw snow on the mountains and the side of the road..We are now in Cody, WY for the night..We have been to WM and then when we got back tot he room I went to Walgreens hunting T-shirts or sweat shirts for the kids but have yet to find any..I am getting rather perturbed..So much for this busy day, tomorrow is a day of riding eastward..

We were in Yellowstone last year, but going to drive through tomorrow and then going to start eastward..We have seen sheep, antelope, elk and some road kill..WE have had a few snow flurries and a lot of wind..It was a very windy day. Tomorrow should be better. We have enjoyed our drive through Montana. It is a pretty state to visit...

October 1, 2014

We went up the east side of Glacier today. The weather was really nice today. It was sunny and cold with a few clouds but a lot better than yesterday. On the different routes into the park we saw many cows in the road. We had no idea there was open range out here, but this park is partly in an Indian reservation. The main highlight of the morning was finally finding a bathroom. We thought there would be stops along the way but they are few and far between. We went all the way to the Canadian Border, which we could not cross because it was closed for the season and we didn't plan on crossing because we didn't have a Visa..We got out and walked around and looked over into Canada.
On our way back down the east side we decided to go back and try the West Side one more time. We were glad we did. The sun was out some but there wee still some clouds but no rain. Once we reached Logan Pass there was snow on the ground and trees and it was snowing lightly. WE had seen snow on the mountains all the way up to Logan Pass. One thing I did leave out of our morning trip, We saw one bear. That is all the wild life we have seen. We are in Kalispell, MT for the night and going to get up in the morning and head for Yellowstone and then plan us a route to Benton, AR..

Sept. 30, 2014

Tuesday--Well, today has not been one of our better days to travel..We made it to Glacier Park, drove into the park in a mist that turned into a light rain, then the higher we got to clouds and hard rain and cold wind..We drove down the Going to the Sun road as far as was open, which was 30 miles to Logan Pass..It was 39 degrees and rainy and windy when we reached this point. On the way back to Columbia Falls, MT for lunch we decided that we had seen enough of the west side and will try seeing the East side tomorrow..Hopefully all the rain and freezing rain will be gone..WE have not seen any critters so far, but hope to see some tomorrow..We are in our hotel for the night and it is still raining...

Sept. 29, 2014

We have had a long day in miles, but still it seemed like a short day..We have traveled over 600 miles today, but now we are 30 miles from Glacier National Park. We are in Kalispell, Montana..On our route today we saw truck loads of potatoes, beets(still in ground) and thousands of bales of hay..I don't believe that anywhere we have been in our travels have we seen so much hay.
Montana stands up to its name..We now understand why they say "Big Sky Country". We have never traveled this far north or been in Montana. We really have enjoyed our drive in this state today..Tomorrow should be the highlight of our trip. We will be as far north as we are going and after the tour of Glacier we will pick us out a route to head back toward Arkansas..The weather is cool and we are enjoying that..Glad we are not home for the 80 degree temps..That is all for tonight..

Sept. 28, 2014

Sunday--We spent last night in Wendover, UT..Went to a few of the casinos this morning..We left there about 1:30PM and came up to Twin Falls, ID..On the way to Twin Falls, we stopped in Jackpot, NV, but I didn't like the casino well enuff to stay there tonight..On the way up here we saw flat prairie land and then beets. We wondered where the beets were grown in Idaho and then went past a couple of fields..After we got here, I got so excited because the hotel had a laundry on the same floor as we are on and then got in the room and we had a Keurig coffee maker..This made my day. We pondered over coming on north because of the weather, but decided that since we had planned to go north to Glacier Park, we would go on and let the weather do it's thing and we would do ours..It maybe cloudy and rainy, but that remains to be seen...That's it for tonight..

Sept. 27, 2014

Day 5--We left Price, UT this morning with cloudy weather and it wasn't long until we got into rain. We had rain almost all the way to Salt Lake City..We visited at the cemetery and then went over to see Elke..She called the girls and they came over and Tiffany and Savannah came over for a visit..It was so nice to see all of them. When we left we didn't know which way we were going, north or south, so we went to McD's and had a samich and pondered over what we should do. We decided to come over to Wendover, NV for a couple of nights and see if the weather would clear up to the north at Glacier National Park.On our way over we saw that the Bonneville Salt Flats and Speedway were covered in water, which is something we have never seen before. It rained about 1/2 way over to Wendover..WE will be here tomorrow and tomorrow night make our decision on which direction we are going...

Vacation update...9/24--9/26

9/24/2014---On this day, we left Dumas, TX heading to Pikes Peak..In the panhandle of Texas we saw fields and fields of sorghum..Traveled from Dalhart, TX across the plains to Colorado..Along the route we stopped at the travel center in Trinidad, got info on Pikes Peak and onward we went..Had a nice Bar-b-que meal in Colorado Springs before going to Pikes Peak...We reached the road going to Pikes Peak and started upward..The aspens were at there peak, so it was one picture after another..After going on upward we were expecting the road to turn to dirt the way it used to be the last time we were there 20 years ago, but the road is paved all the way to the top now..We got out walked a few steps, I went to the bathroom and we left with me having a fast heart beat and woosey head from the altitude..The ride back down was as spectacular as the ride up the hill..We then went over to Cripple Creek and spent the night at our usual place, the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino..

9/25/2014---We left Cripple Creek about noon and started down to Durango..On the way we saw more pretty aspens and the critter of the day was a fox...

9/26/2014--Today we stopped at Adobe Milling in Dove Creek, CO to get some of those good pinto beans. We have seen llama's or alpacaca's, we aren't sure which, deer and a coyote..We went to Arch's National Park and had a nice drive through the park..The weather is rather warm, so we didn't walk much..The arches are too far off the main road, but enjoyed the ride. WE have stopped for the night in Price, Utah...

Vacation Sept. 23, 2014

We left home this morning at 5:30AM..We have driven across Oklahoma and are now in Dumas, TX. at a LaQuinta Inn and Suites..We drove over 700 miles today. I hope tomorrow will be less miles and a little more scenery...We have gone from lots of trees in Arkansas and Oklahoma to no trees and rolling hills in Texas..That is it for today..I will post daily as long as I have internet..

P.S. I forgot to say that we talked to a woman at the hotel we are in that was traveling with a cat. She said the cat did really well traveling. Her husband had two dogs with him, so they have a car full of pets..
